where he worked on
synthetic rubber
In 1940 became Professor of
Experimental Chemistry
and Chemical Technology
at University
of Cologne
Also Director of
Institute
of Chemistry
While all this was going on
he found time for
original research
Published more than 150 papers
on the synthesis of
organic compounds
Along with Diels
his former teacher
awarded 1950 Nobel Prize
in Chemistry
Awarded for
Diels-Alder reaction
A crater on the moon
is named in his honor.
