KENNEDY   Thirty-fifth president served 1961-1963   Democrat from Massachusetts   Lived 1917 to 1963   Soon after inauguration learned of CIA plan to attack Cuba   Bay of Pigs Invasion failed miserably   1500 Cuban exiles killed or captured by Castro’s troops   Approved sending more advisors to Vietnam to fight Communists   Faced down Soviets over missiles in Cuba.   Kennedy warned Russians U.S. would sink any ships bringing more missiles in.   Khrushchev threatened  war, but missiles were removed.   Started the Peace Corps   Advanced equal rights for blacks   Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, in 1963.   His Vice President was Lyndon B. Johnson
