JOHN TYLER     Tenth president 1841-1845   Lived 1790 - 1862   Whig Democrat from Virginia   House of Representatives from 1816-1821     Became governor of Virginia for two terms.     Harrison’s vice-president in 1841.   President Harrison died after only one month in office.   1841 Tyler became president   Called the ‘Accidental President’.     Henry Clay wanted a national bank but Tyler vetoed the bill.   Tyler was very strong on states’ rights.   Resolution of impeachment failed.   One term president.   In 1861 when Southern states seceded, he went with the South.
